HARTING Americas is a subsidiary of HARTING Technology Group, a German-based global leader in the connector industry. We develop, manufacture and sell the world's most durable and reliable products and solutions for use in mechanical and plant engineering, broadcast and entertainment, factory automation, power generation and distribution as well as industrial electronics and telecommunication.

This HARTING internship position is full-time (40 hours per week from May - August), paid, and on-site in Elgin, IL. This position has the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position post-graduation dependent on availability and overall performance. HARTING is a fast paced and exciting technical company with a growing footprint in the Elgin, IL area. HARTING has primary developed and launched products from our German headquarters but has recently expanded to drive design and development from Illinois. We are looking for a design intern to join our growing team- you will get a chance to learn Product Development skills hands on while working side by side with our experienced product development team. We’re looking for someone who likes to learn, who likes fast paced projects and who enjoys cross functional teamwork.

The Product Development Intern is responsible for aiding in the design, development, and customization of HARTING products. This role will leverage cutting edge 3D modeling software and 3D printing technology to drive results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create and/or modify 3D models, assemblies, and drawings
  • Design, print, and test part designs 
  • Research additive and new manufacturing technologies
  • Material research
  • Provide review of all technical specifications and drawings
  • Provide support for New Product Introductions (NPI)

QUALIFICATIONS:  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Pursuing a 4-year degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of important QC principles
  • Experience with featured base 3D CAD software – Siemens NX preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with team project collaboration (working with and leading teams)


  • 0-1 years of engineering work experience in a related industry a plus
  • Experience in the following a plus: programming, prototyping, and fabrication
